Thankful Poem
by Ashley McKinnie, Grade 4

Shoop Academy
Fall/2001

I’m thankful for my mother because some people don’t have mothers.

I’m thankful for my brothers and sisters because they’re nice to me – but one of my brothers I can’t see anymore because he is adopted.

I’m thankful for being alive because some people’s lives got taken away for doing things they shouldn’t.

I’m thankful for having a house to live in because some people don’t.

I’m thankful for having a family because most people don’t.

I’m thankful for a nice school because some schools are dirty.

I’m thankful for the lives of most people in the world because they shouldn’t give them away.

I’m thankful for fresh air from trees because they give people oxygen.

I’m thankful for everything.
